I graduated from Warsaw University, the psychology department with a specialization in psychotherapy. I am currently completing the 4-year certification course in psychotherapy at the Warsaw Institute of Integral Gestalt Psychotherapy.
The reason I chose the profession of psychologist/psychotherapist is that, ever since I can remember, I have viewed people as separate individuals from the whole of society. They have many common features, but at the same time, they are different, and these differences do attract me most of all. I was therefore keen to discover not what a human is, but what each person whom I meet on my way is. I found many lost souls who were looking for the meaning of their lives, happiness, which was understood by each of them differently; intimacy with another human; and love. Each of them seemed to have similar mechanisms for coping with their problems. Whereas at a closer look, it turned out that the sufferings and the ways the person can experience them are very different. There is nothing common between the rigid patterns and reality if we talk about ourselves and other people. I started then to look for my future in a way of working with other people that would match the values I stand for, and so I found Gestalt.
Gestalt psychotherapy, along with the whole existential approach, draws from many sources, theories and hypotheses and, at the same time, portrays human nature in all dimensions of existing.
There is chaos and homeostasis. We want to steer clear of the first one since it can lead to a lot of trouble, and we aim for the second one to find contentment and happiness. It sometimes happens that we find ourselves somewhere between these two states, and the best thing we can do at that moment is just to stop and see that we do not have to stay “there” alone.
The work of psychotherapist from this perspective is based on the therapist-client relation, placing ourselves “here and now”, for the client could better understand the situation he has currently and find new ways of coping with his problems.
The most important thing for me in this approach is an encounter, which is followed by respect, intimacy, accompaniment, sensitivity, mindfulness, approval, responsibility and expressiveness.
I have gained experience in:
